UAS 101 Course Description
Our team of professionals in the aviation and drone industries have developed a learning course designed to introduce your student to Unmanned Aircraft Systems, aka Drones, through lessons on Federal Aviation Regulations, Drone Engineering, Airport Operations, Aviation Weather, Aeronautical Decision Making and more. We will also be introducing all students to current real world use cases such as supporting construction and engineering firms, public safety to include law enforcement and fire personnel, agriculture and agronomy, digital marketing/content creation and medical/food delivery operations. Through online learning and virtual field trips we will keep your student engaged during this educational gap period leading up to Summer Vacation.
14-18 year old students who successfully complete all 8 class sessions and the Online Part 107 Study Guide will be prepared for and eligible to sit for the Federal Aviation Administration Part 107 Written Examination.

UAS 101 Course Curriculum
Session 1 - Rules & Regulations
- Students are introduced to Unmanned Aircraft Systems from a commercial stand point.
- Introduction to the Federal Aviation Administration and the rules and regulations of the sky.
- Discussion on what industries are using drones today and how are they being operated.
- Students will be provided access and walk-through of the Part 107 Study Guide.
Session 2 - UAS Engineering & Maintenance
- Students will be introduced to the parts and components that make up Unmanned Aerial Vehicles.
- Introduction to Electrical Theory through wiring schematic and diagrams.
- Discussion on Standards and Procedures for conducting aviation maintainence safely.
- Introduction to job opportunities within the the aviation maintenance field.
Session 3 - Aircraft, Sensors & Payloads
- Students are introduced to the different UAS and payloads that are currently available for use.
- Introduction to drones manufactured by the following companies; DJI, Skydio, Digital Aerolus and more.
- Discussion on the sensors technology available to include RGB, Thermal, NDVI and LIDAR.
Session 4 - Content Creation & Digital Marketing with Drones
- Students will be introduced to how drones are being used as a tool to capture and create digital content.
- Introduction to industry leading software made for creating photo and video content for marketing.
- Discussion on the value of digital content creation and how valuable photo and video is for businesses today.
Session 5 - UAS in Public Safety
- Students are introduced to the methods in which police, fire and emergency personnel use drones.
- Introduction to hardware and software that is being leveraged during life saving public safety operations.
- Discussion on the pros and cons of using a drone to assist in operations within public safety sector.
- Virtual field trip to Spring Lake Fire Department for "PFD/Lifevest Drop Demonstration".
Session 6 - Virtual Design Construction & Engineering
- Students will be introduced to how construction and engineering firms are leveraging unmanned aircraft.
- Introduction to site progress management and the importance of meeting schedules and budgets.
- Discussion on automation and how artificial intelligence and automation advance construction.
- Virtual field trip to a construction site located in North Carolina to include fly over and 3D Model.
Session 7 - Agricultural Mapping & Utility Inspections
- Students are introduced to the collection and processing methods of Agriculture & Power Line data.
- Introduction to best practices of operating drones for both industries and the software associated with each
- Discussion on what role drones currently serve in supporting these two critical industries.
Session 8 - Drones Delivering the Future
- Students will be introduce to the current drone delivery operations that are taking place around the world.
- Introduction to how delivery drones are being introduced into the National Airspace System(NAS).
- Discussion on what advantages delivery drones can offer versus standard delivery methods.
- Virtual field trip to the FlyTrex drone delivery facility in Holly Springs, NC where drone deliveries launch soon.
